KOKOMO, Ind. (AP/WFLA) — Authorities say a plastic surgeon from Tampa, Florida was killed when a small plane crashed in a central Indiana farm field.
The county coroner’s office identified the pilot as 59-year-old Daniel P. Greenwald, a physician from Tampa, Florida, and said he died from blunt-force trauma in the crash.
The Howard County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened Saturday evening in a soybean field along Indiana 22 just east of Kokomo. Deputies found the twin-engine plane a few hundred yards from the roadway with one person inside who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Greenwald owned Bayshore Plastic Surgery on East Kennedy Boulevard in Tampa. He was known among his fellow physicians for tackling cosmetic surgery cases that others had deemed too difficult to perform, his staff told WFLA Sunday.
The staff added that Greenwald was an experienced general aviation pilot with hundreds of hours of flight time experience.
The physician had frequently used his surgical and piloting skills to help others in need of aid. He flew to Haiti after the Oct. 2018 earthquake to bring medical supplies and donate his time as a surgeon to help those injured in the quake.
