TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA)- A grocery store is making a patriotic move this Fourth of July by donating all of Saturday’s profits to charity.
Winn-Dixie grocery stores says it will donate every dollar raised on Saturday, July 4, 2015 to the Wounded Warriors Project’s Independence Program. The Wounded Warriors Project provides support for injured service members. The Independence Program is designed to help warriors and their families and friends for support due to injuries they have suffered such as brain injury, spinal-cord injury, or other neurological conditions.
Winn-Dixie operates in states that have some of the highest active duty military populations in the United States, according to Ian McLeod, CEO and president of Southeastern Grocers, the parent company of Winn-Dixie grocery stores.
“While we recognize on Memorial Day those soldiers who paid the supreme sacrifice and give thanks to those who have served on Veterans Day, the sacrifice and needs of those who are severely injured visibly or invisibly is not necessarily fully understood. I am honored that we are running this program and am thankful to the military men and women and their families for their service and sacrifice,” said McLeod.
Winn-Dixie customers will also be able to support the Wounded Warriors Project’s Independence Program by making a donation at the grocery store during checkout between Wednesday and Sunday July 1-5.
Winn-Dixie is also encouraging people to participate in a social media campaign using the #AllForHonor hashtag. A special Facebook page All For Honor has also been created where people can honor veterans or service members by posting a dedicationRelated:
